C'Mon the Poort Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lactodorum: Hi, this looks like the cache needs some TLC. Could the owner please undertake a maintenance visit to check it out and replace any damaged items. In the meantime I'm archiving it but I'll happily unarchive it if/when it's sorted.

Thanks, Lactodorum

Geocache Description:

The cache is in an urban setting, very close to parking and civilisation generally

Okay, this is not the prettiest of locations, but if you face away from the cache site you will see the River Usk, the longest river in Wales and one of the finest salmon rivers outside Scotland. (Although I will grant that it does not look like that here). It also has one of the highest tidal movements in the world, which is why you are probably looking at mud. On the far bank is the new Riverfront arts centre, with the medeaval ship discovered during construction is now displayed. Also visible is the Wave, a modern arts installation. behind this is the Indoor market, a splendid Victorian building, and behind that is the clock tower of the Civic centre. to the right is the Old Town bridge and the ruins of Newport Castle. Facing towards the cache site again , you can see the old Art College, now derelict. You are also within a stones throw of Rodney Parade, once described as " A beautifully ugly cathedral of Welsh rugby". Where you can hear the chant that makes up the cache name. So, aesthetics aside, not too bad a spot.
