Karijoen Susiluola on ollut nykyihmisen edeltäjän, mahdollisesti Neandertalin ihmisen asuinsija jo ainakin 120 000 vuotta sitten. Se sijaitsee Kristiinankaupungin puolella, mutta alueen omistaa Karijoen kunta.
Wolf Cave of Karijoki
Susiluola cave has been the place of residence for predecessor of current human being, possibly Neanderthal man, for 120 000 years ago. It is located in Kristiinankaupunki, but municipality of Karijoki is owner of the area.
Luola on saanut nimensä todennäköisesti 1800-luvun lopulla, kun metsästäjät onnistuivat ajamaan suden pentuineen luolaan ja saamaan pennut hengissä kiinni.
Arkeologiset tutkimukset luolassa alkoivat vuonna 1996. Luolan sisällä olevista kerrostumista on löydetty merkkejä ihmisen toiminnasta, mm. noin 200 ihmisen työstämää esinettä. Tämän hetkisen käsityksen mukaan Susiluola on ainoa paikka maapallolla, josta on löydetty ihmiselämän merkkejä paikasta, joka on myöhemmin jäänyt jääkauden muodostaman mannerjäätikön alle. Luolaan ei pääse sisälle, mutta omia tutkimuksia kätkön etsinnän merkeissä voi tehdä lähimaastossa. Susiluolalle käännytään Kristiinankaupungin ja Karijoen väliseltä tieltä nro 663. Alueella on hyvät opaskilvet, mutta talvella luolalle johtavaa tietä ei välttämättä aina aurata.
Parkkipaikan koordinaatit ovat N 62 18.061 / E 021 40.116
Parkkipaikalta luolalle johtaa n. 500 metrin pituinen polku, joka ylittää Susivuoren (maaston vaikeus 2).
Kätkö on pieni pakasterasia noin 50 metrin päässä luolalta. Kätkön voi löytää talvellakin, ellei lunta ole erityisen paljon.

The cave has got the name probably in the late 1800's when local hunters succeeded to chase a wolf and cubs into the cave and to catch up the cubs alive.
Archaeological explorations have been started in Susiluola cave in 1996. Evidence of human activities, for example 200 man-made stone tools, has been found in the sediment layers inside the cave. The cave is so far the only known place in the world where human places of residence have been found in a place that was later covered by glacier ice at Ice Age. You cannot go inside the cave, but you can do some own explorations while caching near the cave. There is distinct signpost by the side of highway 663 (between Kristiinankaupunki and Karijoki) pointing to Susiluola cave. The road to cave area may be blocked by snow in winter.

A small path leads from the parking place to the cave. The distance is about 500 meters and difficulty level of terrain is 2.
The cache is a small plastic container, located about 50 meter off from the cave. It is possible to find the cache also in winter, if there is not very much snow.
