The posted coordinates are bogus.
The Rats use this patch of urban bushland when they are teaching SES members Map-Reading & Navigation. So we thought we’d hide a cache here and have a map-reading lesson at the same time.
To find this cache you will have use a method called a triangulation or a resection. This navigational process is used when people become lost in the bush (or geographically embarrassed) and they try to self help themselves. To undertake this process in the bush, you should seek out the highest point around you and make your way to the top of it. From there you find various points of interest and relate them back to the map. For the purpose of this cache you will need to do it as a desktop exercise.
From where I’ve placed the cache I can see
a) A dam wall at a bearing of 143° mag’. Its located at 34° 34.466 150° 51.023
b) A kids playground at a bearing of 250° mag’. Its located at 34° 34.278 150° 50.649
c) A park bench at a bearing of 26° mag’. Its located at 34° 34.066 150° 51.082
The cache should be easy to find once you are at GZ. Be sure that you aren’t seen and please replace the cache in its exact hiding spot. The cache has the usual swaps including a logbook.
I have included a cache checker for your convenience. The checker will allow for some variation in your coordinates.
This area is a great spot to have a picnic. It is closed to vehicular traffic of a night, but is accessable by foot.
