Landhaus-Blues Multi-cache

Der Cache „Landhaus-Blues“ führt dich in einem Rundgang von rd. 3km Länge durch das Regierungsviertel der NÖ Landesregierung in St. Pölten und zeigt dir einige mehr oder weniger sehenswerte Objekte, Kunstwerke und Denkmäler. Hierbei ist keinerlei nennenswerter Höhenunterschied zu bewältigen und die Routenwahl beschränkt sich ausschließlich auf befestigte Wege, vielmehr sei allerdings vor dem ständig wehenden kalten Wind gewarnt. Warme Kleidung ist besonders an kälteren und windigen Tagen unbedingt anzuraten. Der Cache kann auch nachts bei Dunkelheit gelöst werden, was die Hoffnung auf Windstille wenigstens ein wenig wachsen lässt. Auch für Kinderwägen, Fahrräder und Inline-Skates ist es geeignet, wobei einige wenige Stufen kein nennenswertes Hindernis darstellen sollten. Wenn du Kinder mitnimmst, dann dürfen sie sich bei den Stages 0 und 6 auf 2 schöne Kinderspielplätze freuen. Wie du der Beschreibung entnehmen kannst, sind viele Berechnungen notwendig – in dieser Hinsicht solltest du also einiges an Geduld und v. a. Gründlichkeit mitbringen und jedenfalls mindestens 2 Stunden für die Tour einplanen; willst du zusätzlich dem Herrn Landeshauptmann einen Besuch abstatten, dann empfehle ich dir eine vorherige telefonische Terminvereinbarung. Für die Berechnungen vergiss nicht, das hilfreiche Formular auszudrucken. Bedenke weiters, dass im Landhausviertel GPS-Geräte durch die vielen nahen Mauern und Glasfronten oft zu Fehlmessungen neigen. Benütze daher auch dein Augenmaß, deinen klugen Hausverstand und gute Beobachtungsgabe. Bei GPS-Messungen achte immer darauf, dass du möglichst weit von Häuserfronten entfernt bist und auch keine Vorbauten über dir den Empfang beeinträchtigen. Aus diesem Grunde wurden von mir alle Koordinaten zusätzlich ins Gauß-Krüger-System transformiert und mit Hilfe der digitalen Katastralmappe auf Lagerichtigkeit geprüft.

Dez. 2004 wurde die Box gestolen, ist aber durch mich sofort wieder ersetzt worden - etwas kleiner, in der Hoffnung, dass sie länger bestehen bleibt.

Besonderer Dank gilt Alex, meinem Bürokollegen, der mich bei der Wahl der Stages und der Suche nach dem Cache-Versteck tüchtig unterstützt hat sowie Tina, die bei regnerischer und eiskalter Witterung bei Dunkelheit die "Beta-Testerin" war.

Stage 0: Startpunkt:
N = 48° 11,911´
E = 15° 37,675´
Der Ausgangspunkt ist gleichzeitig eine gute Möglichkeit, den PKW zu parken. Im Sommer ist es hier angenehm kühl (im Winter auch). Gehe in den nahe gelegenen Park und… zähle die Enten – nein – natürlich nicht (kleiner Spaß), sondern halte in der Nähe der Enten nach einem Hinweisschild Ausschau, das eine vollkommen andere Tierart betrifft. Welche Tiere darf man dort im Sinne ihrer eigenen Gesundheit nicht füttern? Weise allen Buchstaben dieser Tierart nach dem bekannten Schema (A=1, B=2, etc.) Zahlen zu und addiere diese Zahlen. Das Ergebnis nenne A. Mit dieser Information findest du sicher...

Stage 1: Das Eiserne Stachelschwein
N1 = N – A/33
E1 = E + 5*A + A/3
Zähle die Stacheln dieses „Tieres“ und du erhältst B. Unterhalb des Stachelschweins wirst du eine Tafel finden, deren Inschrift zwar interessant, aber schwer zu entziffern ist. Keine Angst – du benötigst hier nur die Anzahl der abgebildeten Vögel, die dir C liefert. So – genug der Tiere – jetzt geht´s endlich...

Stage 2: … ins Landhaus
N2 = N1 + B + C
E2 = E1 – 6*B – 2*C
Hier wirst du sehen, dass in diesem Gebäudekomplex nicht nur die NÖ Landesregierung beheimatet ist. Im Jahre 2003 mussten die NÖ Beamten „zusammenrücken“ und einer weiteren wichtigen Landesorganisation Raum schaffen. Unter den vielen NÖ Landeswappen, die dir heute immer wieder begegnen werden, erscheint der Bundesadler, den du hier suchen musst eher unüblich. Suche also den Bundesadler und dann das unmittelbar darunter befindliche Wort, auf das wir Österreicher seit vielen Jahren mit Recht stolz sind. Von diesem Wort wandle die ersten 4 Buchstaben wieder in Zahlen um (A=1, B=2, etc.) und summiere diese 4 Zahlen (=D). Dann suchst du das erste Kunstwerk...

Stage 3: ... die schau´n dich aber nicht an...
N3 = N2 + 2*D – 2*C
E3 = E2 + D – 4*C
Sei ihnen bitte nicht böse, sie können sich ja nicht umdrehen – wie viele sind es eigentlich? Zähle sie, damit du F bekommst.
Von hier gehe ca. 35m in Richtung (F – 20)° und suche ein Kunstwerk von Prof. Ernst Degasperi. Wann wurde diese „Messmarke“ von ihm erstellt? Die Quersumme der Jahreszahl nenne G. Vielleicht wirst du dich selbst noch an dieses Ereignis erinnern. Nicht zu lange grübeln, wir haben noch einiges vor...

Stage 4: Architektur trifft Musik
N4 = N3 + F/G
E4 = E3 – G
Tja - das ist das neue Wahrzeichen der Landeshauptstadt – der Klangturm - in voller Größe . Bei Schönwetter versäume nicht hinaufzufahren und die Aussicht über St. Pölten zu genießen (Öffnungszeiten und mehr hier). Wie auch immer – du möchtest aber weiter und mußt erst die Rätsel lösen...Finde heraus, wieviele Punkte (Abschnitte) die Hausordnung des Klangturmes beinhaltet und subtrahiere 1. (=H). Weiters zähle die riesigen Klangkugeln im Inneren des Klangturmes (=J). Beide Zahlen sind übrigens Primzahlen. Solltest du die Hausordnung nicht entdecken, dann kommst du auf H auch noch wie folgt: Nimm die Anzahl der Stufen, die vom Foyer bis zur Aussichtsterasse führen, dividiere sie durch 10 und subtrahiere davon noch C (bei der Stufenanzahl hilft dir vielleicht auch ein Telefonjoker, der Internetverbindung hat...) .

Stage 5: Saubere Energie
N5 = N4 + 3*H + 2*J + 1
E5 = E4 + J
Wie viele Quadratmeter Fläche umfasst diese Anlage? Nenne diese Zahl K und suche…

Stage 6: Junge Künstler
N6 = N5 + K – 2*G
E6 = E5 –K/2 + H
Schüler aus St. Pölten haben diese Skulptur erstellt. In den Wintermonaten ist sie zum Schutz mit Brettern umhüllt und daher leider nicht sichtbar. Trotzdem wirst du das „Jahr der Verwirklichung“ herausfinden und dessen Quersumme L nennen.
ACHTUNG: Für die Zeit der Baumaßnahmen ist die Lösung im Hint zu lesen, da man nicht so nahe herankommt, um die Infotafel zu entziffern.

Stage 7: Versunkenes Zimmer
N7 = N6 + 3*B
E7 = E6 + C
Der Vollständigkeit halber sei dieses fragwürdige „Kunstwerk“ eingebaut. Ja genau, diese Mistgrube ist das Kunstwerk… Warum es hier nichts zu rätseln gibt? Stages, bei denen keine Rätsel eingebaut sind, scheinen solche auch nicht verdient zu haben… nur rasch weiter...

Stage 8: Tor ohne Tür
N8 = N7 + 2*L
E8 = E7 + L
Suche hier dieses riesige „Tor ohne Türe“ und du wirst darin überdimensionale Plexiglas-Säulen finden. Sind das Beleuchtungssäulen, oder lediglich Dekorationsgegenstände? Wie auch immer - zähle sie und gehe rd. 60m in Richtung 120°. Auch hier wirst du Säulen finden, die tragen aber ein Dach, das dir bei Regen keinerlei Schutz bietet. Die Summe dieser Säulen und der Plexiglas-Säulen sei M. Zur Adventzeit kannst du auf diesem Platz den großen Christbaum bewundern und im Mai – na was wohl – genau: den Maibaum. Ok – genug Bäume bewundert, folge mir weiter...

Stage 9: … bis auf den Grund der Donau
N9 = N8 – 12*M
E9 = E8 + 3*M
Dieses eiserne Ungetüm spricht für sich. Wie schwer ist es wohl? Das Gewicht liefert dir P und unter tosendem Zuschauerbeifall biegst du auch schon in die Zielgerade ein...

Wenn das Schiff also nicht schwimmen kann, dann muss es wohl auf Beinen im Wasser stehen. Lass dich nicht verwirren – das Wasser ist im Winter natürlich ausgelassen, aber die runden Beine kannst du jedenfalls zählen, damit du R bekommst. Stage 12: Cache
NC = N11 + A/2 – 3*C – J*B – J + P/F – R – M – K
EC = E11 – D + G – H + L + Q – R/2
Der Cache ist eine Plastik-Box (10 x 8 x 2,5). Mit den richtigen Koordinaten ein Kinderspiel, da der Empfang hier sehr gut ist und du sogar EGNOS reinkriegst. Bitte verstecke ihn wieder genauso wie vorgefunden, das ist gerade bei diesem Versteck sehr wichtig – warum? Das wird nicht verraten - steht aber im Cache.

The cache “Landhaus-Blues” leads you through the settlement area of the Lower Austrian Government, is about 3 km long and shows you some more or less worth seeing objects, works of art and memorials. You just walk on level asphalt-ways - only be aware of the cold wind. Use warm cloths especially on cold and windy days. The cache can be done as well at night, what probably could give a little hope for less wind. Its suitable as well for baby-buggies, bikes and inline-skates, whereby some steps should make no problems. At St. 0 and 6 children can enjoy nice playgrounds. As you see in the description there are a lot of calculations necessary – so you should bring a good portion of patience and above all conscientiousness and at least a minimum of two hours for the complete tour. If you additionally want to pay a visit to the Landeshauptmann (headmaster, mayor,…?) you should make an appointment by phone some weeks before… Don´t forget to print out the useful form attached to the description and further on consider that GPS receivers often give wrong results near high house walls or huge glass fronts. So try as well to measure by eye, use your brain and your power of observation. Using your GPS try to have a reasonable large distance to house walls and not to stand under front buildings. To avoid wrong coordinates I transformed all stage coordinates to the Austrian Gauß-Krüger-System and checked their conformance with the digital cadastre map.

Dec. 2004 the box had been stolen, but immediately I replaced it - a little bit smaller hopefully it will exist longer.

Stage 0: Starting point:

The starting point is also a good possibility to park your car. At summertime this place is pleasing cool (in winter as well…). Have a walk through to the nice park nearby and… count the ducks – no, of course not (joke, joke!) but not far from the ducks you will find a written sign concerning a total different animal species. Which kind of animals are not allowed to be feed in interest of their own health? Convert the letters using the well known formula (A=1, B=2, etc.) and add all numbers receiving A. This will lead you to

Stage 1: The Iron Porcupine
N1 = N – A/33
E1 = E + 5*A + A/3
Count the spikes of this “animal” and you´ll get B. Below the porky you´ll find an honour sign. Though its writing is interesting it is very hard to make it out. No panic – you just need the number of birds on this sign – this gives you the value for C.
Well – enough animals seen – we want to enter ...

Stage 2: … into the Landhaus
N2 = N1 + B + C
E2 = E1 – 6*B – 2*C
At this point you will see that in this complex not only the Government is domiciled. In the year 2003 the officials had to move together to make room for another important organisation. Beneath the great amount of Lower Austrian Country emblems which you will find on your tour the Austrian nation emblem seems to be a little bit unusual at this place. So search this national eagle emblem and then straight below a word which – with reason - we Austrians are very proud of. Take the first 4 letters of this word, convert them to numbers (A=1, B=2, etc.) again and call the sum of these 4 Numbers D. Now you will search for the first work of art...

Stage 3: … but they don´t want to look at you…
N3 = N2 + 2*D – 2*C
E3 = E2 + D – 4*C
Please don´t be angry with them, they are not capable to turn around. By the way: What´s the tally? Count them and you´ll get F.
From this position go about 35m using the direction (F – 20)° and search for another work of art made by Prof. Ernst Degasperi. Find out the creation year of this measure marking? The sum of digits of this year date call G. Perhaps you´ll remember this incident. But don´t waste your time too long, we intend to move on...

Stage 4: Achitecture meets Music
N4 = N3 + F/G
E4 = E3 – G
Well this is the new sign of St. Pölten – the Klangturm – rising up to the sky. At nice weather you should not miss taking the elevator to the top and have a great view over the city (Opening hours and more look here). How ever – you want to proceed but first have to solve the riddles... Find out how many points (sections) the rules (="Hausordnung") of the Klangturm contains and subtract 1. (=H) Next count the huge "sound-globes" inside the tower (=J). By the way: both numbers are prime numbers. If you don´t spy the "Hausordnung" you can get H as following: count the steps leading from the foyer to the view platform divide it by 10 and subtract C (finding out the amount of steps may be a telefon joker with internet connection could be useful...).

Stage 5: Clean Energy
N5 = N4 + 10*J
E5 = E4 + H
How many square meters area has this construction? This will give you K and you are searching for...

Stage 6: Young Artists
N6 = N5 + K – 2*G
E6 = E5 –K/2 + H
Pupils from St. Pölten created this sculpture. In winter it is cocooned with wooden planks and therefore unfortunately not visible. Nevertheless you´ll find out the year of creation and call the sum of digits L.
ATTENTION: During the time of the building project the solution of this stage is written down in the hint section cause you wil not get close enough to the information plate.

Stage 7: The Sunken Chamber
N7 = N6 + 3*B
E7 = E6 + C
For the sake of completeness this questionable “work of art” shall be built in this tour. Yes, this pit of muck is actually the work of an “artist”… Why is there no riddle given? Well, stages without a riddle don´t seem to have earned any... just hurry away to...

Stage 8: Gate without Door
N8 = N7 + 2*L
E8 = E7 + L
At this stage you search for a huge gate containing no door and you´ll find oversized Plexiglas pillars. Are these lighting pillars or just decoration objects? How ever – count them and go about 60m using direction 120°. Here you´ll find also pillars but they sustain a roof which does not protect you from rain. The sum of these pillars and the Plexiglas pillars gives you M. During the advent season you will see a large Christmas tree and in May a large May tree. Ok – enough trees seen, follow me...

Stage 9: … To the Ground of the Danube
N9 = N8 – 12*M
E9 = E8 + 3*M
This iron monster needs no comment. What may be its weight? The weight gives you the value of P and under roaring applause you´ll reach the home stretch...

Station 12: Cache

The cache consists of a plastic box (13 x 20 x 5). Using the correct coordinates it´s mere child´s play to locate the cache cause the reception is very good even EGNOS signal is possible. Please hide the cache again exact as you found it – that´s especially very important for this cache – why? No – this information is not yet given, but written in the cache.
