West Westport Travel Bug Stop Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Cool Librarian: Well, this one has run its course, I think.
I stopped by this morning before going on a NB and FR run, and found the area littered with medical trash. The PI was also completely obscuring the cache area, which meant that I found the cache completely out in the open. I have to say that I am surprised that the cache lasted this long there - Fall River is Fall River is Fall River, and this place sees a lot of trashy action, I'm sure. Only one resident in the cache, so I will move that along and call it a day here. Thanks to all that stopped by! Peace.

Geocache Description:

OK, OK, “West Westport” is actually Fall River – and we all know what has happened to most of Fall River’s caches. However, this TB hotel is conveniently located at/near the junctions of routes 6, 195, and 24 and can be easily accessed coming from just about every direction.

Winter note: Cache should still be fairly easy to locate in snow, but footing at the cache site with snow/ice could be treacherous - please be careful!

This cache is just feet from your car on an abandoned portion of the Penn Central Railroad, along the shore of South Watuppa Pond. While the site may not look like much from the parking area, there are a couple of interesting features at and near the cache location.

According to Green Futures, the Quequechan River Regional Bike Path will eventually go right past here:

“Phase 1 of the path would begin in Britland Park and continue in an easterly direction along the abandoned rail lines to the property owned by Interstate Trucking. At this point the trail will traverse along the Quequechan River and the east boundary of the property by way of an easemnet to Brayton Avenue. The trail will then continue easterly along the tracks at the South Watuppa Pond to Route 6 in Westport. The Town of Westport and the City of Fall River intend to connect their separate projects to create a regional bicycle and pedestrian facility.”

This is a TB hotel meant for travel bugs and other cache-to-cache travelers. In the interest of keeping the cache clutter-free, please leave only travelers. Even TB trades are preferred, but you may take without leaving IF you can really help the TB along on its mission, or you are a new cacher in need of a TB to get you started in your TB trading. Please log first visit as a find and subsequent visits as notes.

Note: When retrieving the cache, please make sure your back is to the water; coming from the other "direction" will create a social trail and make retrieval difficult.

Please allow cachers 24 hours to either drop or pick-up a TB before "grabbing" it from their possession or sending e-mail inquiries. When TBs are "grabbed," it doesn't allow the person to "drop" the bug, and mileage is sometimes screwed up. Thanks!
