PIN SOLITAIRE ( Français ) Deux légendes entourent le Pin
Solitaire : La première veut qu’après une bataille entre un
Iroquois et un Abénaquis, ce dernier l’emporta et scalpa son ennemi
sur un rocher se trouvant dans le Saint-François à l’embouchure de
la rivière Magog. L’autre légende, cette fois-ci beaucoup plus
romantique, prétend que ce même rocher est le tombeau d’une jeune
Amérindienne.
Si le rocher est toujours là, le pin solitaire, lui, n’existe
plus. En effet, il disparut en 1913 alors que deux ivrognes «le
sectionnèrent en rondelles ; ils vendaient les tranches du
mystérieux conifère comme souvenir à raison de 25 cents pièces,
afin de se procurer de quoi boire ». Source :

De pistes cyclables en sentiers balisés, cette randonnée de type
urbaine est assez facile. Elle se fait à pied ou en vélo. On peut
la compléter en 1h30 ou 2h00, selon qu’on prend le temps d’observer
les oiseaux… Vous pouvez stationner dans les rues adjacentes, près
de la station service. Apportez-vous une calculatrice.

PIN SOLITAIRE ( English )
There are two legends about the Pin Solitaire: the first one
talks about a fight involving an Iroquoian and an Abénaquis. The
latter won and he scalped his enemy on a rocky island located the
St-Francis river at the meeting of Magog river. The second more
romantic legend relate that on the rock stood the tomb of a young
female Amerindian.
The rock is still there but the Pin solitaire is'nt. In 1913
two drunkards knocked it down. Then, for 25 cents each, they sold
as a souvenir, every thiny slice of the mysterious tree; that gave
them enough money to carry on drinking.

Pin solitaire legend
The cache is an easy urban type one, through bicycle paths
and hiking trails. It can be hunted by foot or by bike. You'll need
approximately 1h30 or 2h00 depending on wheter you do bird watching
or not. Street parking is permitted around the gas tation. Don't
forget to carry a pocket calculator.
