Owyhee Homestead Series
Dedicated to the pioneers who first settled
this area.
Early pioneer homestead located at Indian Hot Springs just
downstream of the Bruneau and Jarbidge Rivers confluence. Very
scenic journey as you descend 1000 feet into the Bruneau River
Canyon. The road is steep and rocky, intended for high clearance
vehicles only. Make sure you are prepared for desert travel before
attempting this cache. This location is a put in for Bruneau River
floaters during spring run-off. There are several camping spots
along the bank. I recommend you take some extra time to explore the
immediate area and enjoy the hot springs.
Although the cache itself is located within the Bruneau-Jarbidge
Rivers Wilderness Area, a motorized vehicle corridor allows access
from either the east or the west. If you are driving a full size
vehicle, use the eastern approach. When you reach the river, park
at the bridge and hike the remaining distance. The western approach
should not be attempted in anything larger than an ATV. Regardless
of which approach you use be aware that the last few miles of the
road to the cache are extremely rocky. A few bumps will give you an
added appreciation of the people who first settled here.
