Dennis Cove Falls - Laurel Fork Trail
This is on the Laurel Fork Trail USFS #39. Trailhead is at 36
15.429 82 06.682. Parking available across the road from the
trailhead. Following the stream is relatively easy going. Well
packed dirt. You could ride a standard bicycle or push a stroller
on this trail without too much effort.
Could be gravel, sand, mud, etc. Mountain bike could go part of the
way. Until you get to the stream crossing, yup! Three of them !
There are cables stretched across the stream, if you come prepared
with the proper equipment, you won't have to rock-hop or wade the
creek. I just took off my boots and waded the creek. There are
stepping stones, boulders and rocks. Not for the faint of heart
when the water is up.
Not suitable for small children. (The average adult or older child
should be OK depending on physical condition.)
This cache is in the same area as the old "CHARLIE WUN" GC727C - I
decided to place a new cache in the area. Some of the items from
the old cache as well as the logbook from the old cache are in the
new Ammo Box. Its a .50cal medium sized ammo box, lots of goodies
in there to trade.
A couple waypoints you might want to load into your GPS and
checkout while your on the trail:
FH 8 USGS Benchmark 36 15.395 82 06.287 (not listed)
(atop a rock on right hand side, at first stream crossing) Dennis
Cove Falls N36 15.165 W82 05.990 (bring a camera)
Please do not leave water bottles or insect repellent
bottles in the cache. They leak and damage the contents. Also,
please do not leave any food products or anything that smells like
food (i.e. fruit scented items). Animals will find and destroy the
cache if you do. Thanks.
