SideTracked - Grogley Halt
| The cache is on the boundary between the cyclepath and footpath, so therefore you do not need to go onto the platform to retrieve this cache. In respect of the cache itself, this is currently the '33rd oldest cache is Cornwall' and therefore at twenty years old is one of those laid in the earlier years of caching which is still remaining. To help ensure its longevity, please note; a cache log entry (or photo evidence of site attendance) must be uploaded. A DNA (Did not attempt)(because of nettles or brambles is not a DNF (Did not find)- Entries which do not comply will be deleted. |

Grogley Halt |
A little history: Grogley Halt was a 'Southern Railway' station, which opened on 2 July 1906 in connection with the start of the 'railmotor' service between Bodmin North (Now demolished) and Wadebridge although with the wooden platform was unlit and trains only stopped during daylight hours. A GWR style pagoda shelter was provided before 1933, being latterly replaced by a wooden shelter when the platform was rebuilt in concrete in the 1950s. The line just north of Grogley Halt was realigned in 1888 with the junction to Ruthern Bridge being controlled from a ground frame, which thus involved a reversal to gain access to the Ruthern Bridge line (effectively where the cache is) and then leaving the junction via the bridge which carried the Ruthern Bridge freight line until 1934. The station closed to passengers on 30 January 1967. Today the platform survives in relatively good condition. |
