Lidwell Chapel.
Park at N50 34.589 W003 31.707 as this gives a shorter walk along the busy road than from the car park. The golf course was once an aerodrome. You will walk across Little Haldon, home to skylarks in the spring and summer. Walk down the footpath and through the field gate into the chapel area. The gate is just before the “No public right of way beyond this point” sign and is at the end of the footpath. You will need the clue as the tree cover is too great for GPSr. The cache has been stolen at least twice, so please rehide well.
Take a look at the 13th century chapel and holy well, just through the gate. You WILL need wellies or boots to look at the chapel as the natural spring (no doubt the original inspiration for the siting of the chapel, (and whatever pagan site was there previously), makes the area boggy. There was a more natural cache inside the chapel, where a pheasant had it's nest of eggs (May 14th). I dont know who was more surprised, her or me when I nearly trod on it. The views across to the Jurassic Coast are lovely.
