Geocache Description:

King Arthurs View cache is so named as it affords views of several localities that some have suggested have links to the legendary king. The cache is an ammo box situated on Velvet Hill near Llangollen. Be aware that the paths leading to the cache are narrow in places and on steep slopes so take care with children and pets. Dogs must be kept on leads here. Many thanks to the good folks at the National Trust for Wales who gave their permission for this cache to be placed.

This is the final cache in the mini-series 'Fables, Myths and Legends'. The coordinates above are for the suggested car park which has picnic tables and public toilets.

This cache is no longer a puzzle cache and the coordinates are as follows:

N 52° 59.210 W 003 11.298

The other three caches in the series are:

Fables, Myths and Legends ... The Lost Mermaid

Fables, Myths & Legends .. Ogo's Hole

Fables, Myths & Legends ... Shropshire's Robin Hood (Now Archived)

Once you have found the cache, take a moment to admire the view. To the East you can see Castell Dinas Bran sitting atop a hill behind Llangollen. One legend suggests that Josephus, son of Joseph of Arimathea who brought the Holy Grail to Wales used it to cure a King of leprosy and that in return the castle was built to house the Grail.

Very close by is Valle Crucis Abbey. Excavations at this abbey suggest that it was built on a much older site that is rumored to have Arthurian connections.

Further around to the West and also not far away is the Pillar of Eliseg. The name of King Vortigern was inscribed on this pillar. Vortigern formed an alliance with the Saxons that ultimately led to war with them. King Arthur's legendary father Uthyr Pendragon killed Vortigern for his treachery.

There are many books dealing with the legends of King Arthur and The Holy Grail and more information about the possible connections to the Llangollen area can be found at: http://www.llangollen.org.uk
