Rusty Duke Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

Geocache Description:

This is a cache down a wide, level track. At high tide the path may be under water.

It seems a very sad end for one of the merchant navy's workhorses to end up here.

The "Duke of Lancaster" was one of the regular ferries between Heysham and Belfast in the good old days before EasyJet.

In fact it may have been from this very ship that Mr Happy Landins delivered his dinner to the fishes on one stormy crossing with the Boy Scouts. So there is a bit of nostalgia here!

Now this vessel that fought its way through so many mountainous Irish Sea storms finds itself really and truly up the creek.

When you leave the road, make sure you take the trail on the RIGHT side of the stream, or you won't find the cache.
