This is an offset Multicache and you will have to pick up a
couple of virtual clues before finding the cache. It is located
near the Village of Nether Wallop in Hampshire.
To find the cache you must visit an unusual stone which has been
the resting place of Dr Francis Douce since 1760. Nearby in the
grounds of St Andrews church are the two virtual clues that you
need.
First find the stone inscription shown in the photograph
below.
The date that you will find is ABCD. As digit C is a little hard
to read, this is not required to locate the cache.
Secondly look for a plate that mentions the mysterious Mrs 'R',
when was she born ? The date is EFGH.
The cache can be found at;
N 51° 07.(D+A)(G-E)(D)'
W 001° 33.(F)(H+A)(G-B)'
The cache is within walking distance (0.9km round trip) and can
be approached by two routes, if you take the lower route via the
mill pond then you will need a pair of wellies. Either way, there
may be nettles.
There is parking for several cars near the church but this is
likely to be busy during church services in which case you will
need to seek an alternative spot towards the village. The Church
which is built on Anglo-Saxon foundations dating from the early
11th century is well worth a visit and you can see a portion of an
origonal Anglo-Saxon painting.
We hope that you enjoy the nice countryside around this area. If
you are in need of refreshments then a suitable watering hole can
be found at N 51° 07.600 W 01° 34.444.
