This cache has been archived.

Stuey: Now that everyone has logged their messages for this event, I am archiving the cache.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it, and look forward to the next one.... probably a Sunday afternoon in early December.

Geocache Description:

The Exeter Caching Event, 2004 will be an afternoon when those that want to can get together for some food and drink, and then get their hands on some brand new caches, hot off the press!

The Double Locks The location chosen for this event is "The Double Locks" pub in Exeter, a family friendly pub with good value food and drink available. Food is served from midday. This should be a great caching event, with the opportunity of a social gathering prior to the caches being distributed after lunch, or just an afternoon of caching with many "First To Find"s to be had if you only want to cache. There is an option to reconvene in the evening for more socialising if you wish. Free camping is often available, but you should contact the pub beforehand for confirmation.

I have asked 12 local cachers if they are willing to create caches to be released to coincide with this event, and the feedback so far has been very positive. Expect to see many brand new caches released on the day, all within 15 miles of Exeter city centre. These will initially only be available to people attending the event in printed form, but they will become normal caches for anyone else to search for afterwards. Logging of finds will be possible as soon as the caches are made active that evening.

For visitors to the area, there are many other nearby caches to be found (30 more within 15 miles), either during the morning, or the day before if you are coming to Exeter for the weekend. This area includes eastern Dartmoor, the Exe, Teign, Otter and Culm valleys, the World Heritage Jurassic Coast up to and beyond Sidmouth, and Exeter itself of course.

The schedule for the afternoon will be as follows:
Midday: (Optional) Meet up at the Double Locks for food, drink, chat etc. Cache setters to bring printouts of their new caches.
1.30pm: The new cache sheets are distributed to all in attendance (expect up to 10 new caches, maybe more!).
7.30pm: (Optional) Meet back at the Double Locks for socialising.

Click here for an area map. From the Marsh Barton trading estate use the access road at the eastern end of Alphinbrook Road at N50°42.263,W003°31.391 and drive over a very narrow swing bridge - you may need to walk 3/4 mile from the trading estate if you have a mini-bus. The pub is family friendly, with large grounds set between the river and the canal (keep young children under control). There is lots of parking available if you are confident enough to drive over the bridge. Food is reasonably priced, and there are lots of real ales available at the pub.

Note for cache setters: Caches for the event should be created and submitted in the usual way, but when submitting them, please add a comment to the reviewer that the cache is to be made live on the evening of the Exeter Caching Event, 5th September so logs can be entered. They will be reviewed in the usual way and will have to meet Geocaching guidelines. They should not be made available before the event, so only event attendees get to see them first on printouts of your own new cache that you bring with you.

Please post a note on this page to let me know if you intend coming, so we all know how many cache page printouts we have to bring on the day. Also please let me know using the email link in my profile if you are creating a cache. If you watch this cache, you will be emailed all user added notes automatically and be kept up to date with all the news!
