Geocache Description:

Kingston's first scuba cache - but accessible by freediving or "ambitious snorkelling" (hence the name) as well. Coordinates lead you to a micro cache containing directions to the underwater Traditional cache.

The old Morton's distillery used to operate from this spot, and it had its own shipping/receiving dock in the Days Of Old. The dock itself is in disrepair and no longer used, probably due to the fact it's approximately 6' underwater.

This is a little known shore diving site in Kingston, and one of my favorite freedive sites. Silt/sand bottom at 25', fish and junk to look at. Sometimes you'll see bottles from the old distillery.

Okay, about the cache. Arriving on site you will be looking for a film container micro cache containing detailed instructions on where to go to find the actual cache itself. You'll need a dive compass, and snorkelling or scuba gear. Distances given in the instructions are somewhat approximate but line up nicely with visible structural features so "you'll know when you see them".
Therefore, here are the major changes:

Update, as of 18 June 2006:

1. SCUBA GEAR IS NOW HIGHLY RECOMMENDED due to the new nature of the cache.

You are now looking for a green (lol, I am sadistic) paint can labelled "Geocache by FreeFloat". Everything within it has been attached to cave line tied through the can, and the log pages (divers' underwater "paper") are on a separate line. You need to bring your own pencil as I couldn't find a waterproof one to include.

You may certainly attempt this cache without scuba gear but please, if the task proves impossible (i.e. the thing floats away) collect the pieces and contact me. If you drop the can or knock it into places you can't reach, please contact me immediately as well.

2. The cache "box" now sits at approximately 3' (1m) northish and about 4' (1.3 m) deeper than its last location. The spoiler coordinates can remain the same as they're still well within the average GPSr's accuracy.

3. I've placed a new tennis-ball-tied-to-a-rock marker. It's on a long length of cord so it should be visible above the rock pile. It's tied with white line this time so should remain visible for longer than last time.

4. You will need to bring a pencil.

As before, all items are designed to remain submerged. There is a logbook, underwater disposable camera, and other submersible goodies.

Inside the cache box itself I placed:

- a large glow stick
- an orange golf ball
- two rubber "live strong" type bracelets
- a mini neon writing board
- a mini compass on a carabiner

The cache itself is sitting in plain view (once underwater) at about 15' of depth. It is sitting beside a marker so that if you feel the need to surface with it, you'll know where to replace it.

Coordinates for the cache itself are approximately N 44° 13.171 W 076° 30.350, if you decide to take your GPS for a swim.

When first placed, the cache contained:
- underwater notebook and pencil, for use as a cache log
- underwater camera (very very buoyant)
- 2 green glowsticks - unused, but had to tear the packages to make them less buoyant
- 2 gear clips- 3 bundles of 5 zip-ties
- 1 bottle of mask defog (careful, it's buoyant)
- 3 weight belt clips
- 1 BC dump valve ball.

The camera has been recovered, and the pictures have been developed. Not all the film was used, but what few picture there are, will eventually be posted to this cache listing.
