Hike the back trails of Rockwood Park, listen for lions roaring in the distance or spring peepers peeping and take on the challenge of a night time cache hunt.
This cache was designed to be for searched for at dusk or night, but would be a quick lunchtime hunt. I’ve put reflective markers on some of the trails to help guide the night owls.
To begin your adventure head towards the Cherry Brook Zoo and park in the parking lot adjacent to the zoo [N 45° 19.256’ W 066° 04.108’]. Grab your flashlight and head down the gravel trail. Once you’ve passed the tip of Harrigan Lake look for a trail on the left by the large Rockwood Park trail map [N 45° 19.124’ W 066° 03.934’]. Follow this trail (and the markers) until you see another trail on your right [N 45° 19.140’ W 066° 03.797’] that goes up a hill. Head up the hill and continue following this trail until you near the cache. Scan the woods with your flashlight looking for a line of reflective markers going down a slope. At the bottom of the slope is a piece of wood with 3 markers on it. The cache is less than 2 meters from the piece of wood. PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO STEP ON THE CACHE. Cache is a Rubbermaid container covered with a black plastic bag. GPSr accuracy was 6m when the cache was concealed. Happy hunting and enjoy the sights and sounds of the park at night!
