Vaulted Crypt Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lactodorum: Hi, this looks suspiciously like the cache has gone. Could the owner please undertake a maintenance visit to check if it's there or not. In the meantime I'm archiving it but I'll happily unarchive it if/when it's found assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Thanks, Lactodorum

Geocache Description:

This is a VC—A Vaulted Crypt cache in SW Wales which sometimes has a microcache log. Good for the whole family. Paved but steep terrain.

This 800 year old vaulted crypt is an ancient remnant from the early days of my town. I pass by here all the time. A geocacher friend of mine suggested that I make it a geocache location. It does not look like much from the outside but you can tell it is old. Go down the steps and look through the barred door. Very impressive! I do not want to give away too much information here, but there is a plaque on the side of the crypt. You may possibly find a small capsule with a log scroll inside (see photo) but you'll need your own pencil. I'm perfectly happy treating this as a virtual. You may either post a photo of yourself here or e-mail me the name of the organization at the top of the plaque and then log your find.

You will find some other interesting things in the area. Go down the hill a bit (to N 51° 48.087' W 04° 58.250') and there is a cylinder monument to a man who was burned at the stake.

Directly across from the crypt is St Mary's Church. It is also very old and has artefacts in it that date to the 14th century or so. Near St Mary's, at the top of of the hill, (N 51° 48.051' W 04° 58.325') is another interesting plaque about the former butter and fish market.

Suggested coordinate adjustments or terrain ratings are welcome although I believe both are accurate. Enjoy your visit.
