An easy find in a dog-friendly area. Do yourself a favour and keep heading down the track for a fantastic view.
This was one of Snuva's favourite places - the closest quality place to bounce around off-lead with other dogs as well as the place she gathered Monday evenings with her friends as they had a drink of wine and complained about dogs spattering them with mud. Although she is has now died, the cache was named long before it was imagined this could possibly happen in the next 10 years and referred to this being one of her favourite hang-outs - as well as being close to a cemetery.
Some historial notes: This area was once occupied by Tasmanian Aboriginal people of the Mouheneener band. In 1793, Lieutenant John Hayes was the first English navigator to explore the Derwent. He named his landing place for the semi-precious cornelian stones found on the beach. The Cornelian Bay Cemetery occupies the site of the first Government Farm, which supplied fresh vegetables and other produce for the first residents of Hobart Town. Another farm was carved from bushland closer to the Sullivans Cove settlement – today it’s the location of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
