A commanding view that is easy to overlook--but don't! Best viewed at night when foliage is not present. Cache is a nano.
Overlook Park is a steep, wooded incline, located along Ditmars Boulevard. A sitting area and driving turn-around crown the top of the hill. Overlook Park remains true to its moniker, through name changes and reconstruction, by affording visitors an impressive view of the airfield below. In 1989, Commissioner Stern changed the park’s name from simply “Park” to “Planeview Park;” the name was later changed again to Overlook Park.
The site cannot be reached by climbing up the incline from Ditmars Blvd. You have to enter through local streets. Parking is restricted by the park but you can walk in from the residential streets on either side.
The original cache was a plastic container in a black plastic bag. Unfortunately, pruning by the Parks Department destroyed its hiding place of 1 1/2 years. It's new spot has also been compromised so we are now on location #3.
Be stealthy, stroll to the fence and have a good look. Then have a seat and sign the log. Bring your own pencil.
