Geocache Description:

During the 1930's, the logging industries build a system of railroads across the Everglades. It was a systematic and very efficient process in removing logged cypress. Today, the tracks are long gone, but the levies are still present and make an excellent hiking trails. This cache site will give just a sample of how they build them and the impact it created in our environment.

This is a 4 stage multi-cache and will require some preparation before hunting for this cache. Plan to spend 6-8 hours and walk 11.5 miles for this cache. Before you can get to this railroad tram, it will require you to use the "dirt roads". This "dirt road" are not passable by cars. Bonita Beach Road currently dead ends, but in the near future, it will be connected to Immokallee Road (Orange Blossom). Don't you love progress? Most of this dirt roads are submerge in water. Lots of water!!! How much water? Hmmmmmm....There is so much water, I saw a couple of boats along the way. I'm not kidding. Please look at the topographic map and the aerial map prior to doing this cache. You will need plenty of water, long pants, cell phone, and snacks.

Park your car in this coordinates:
N 26° 19.949
W 081° 40.457

You dont have to use this as starting point. There are several ways you can approach the first stage cache.

The 1st stage cache is made of flat metal shape like bird and nailed on a pine tree. The CODE for 2nd stage cache is ingraved on the metal. The coordinates for 2nd cache are:

N26° 19.7A5
W081° 38.6U1
N26 19. 7 _ 5. W081 38. 6 _ 1.

After you have found the first cache, there are TWO WAYS to get to the railroad tram trail. The Trail A is for the geocacher that likes adventure but wants to play it safe. This is probably the longer way, but there is no bushwacking required.

Trail B is a virtual trail made by FireCat and Pittsburg Transplant. My hat is off to both of them for making this trail so that other people may follow their footsteps. WARNING: Trail B is for extreme geocacher only. Do not attempt this trail if you are sane, logical, and afraid of critters.

Trail A Waypoints:

1. 26° 20.602N 081° 39.384W
2. 26° 20.687N 081°39.244W
3. 26° 20.308N 081° 39.018W

"FireCat and Pittsburg Transplant Trail"

1. 26° 20.604N 081° 39.412W
2. 26° 20.441N 081° 39.307
3. 26° 20.183N 081° 39.021W

The 2nd stage container is made of a small plastic medicine container which contains the CODE for 3rd stage cache. The coordinates for 3rd cache are:

N26° 21.OA8
W081° 36.7R2
N26° 21 . 0 _ 8 W081. 36 . 7 _ 2

The 3rd stage container is a 35mm film cannister which contain an eight letter WORD to be use for decoding for the coordinates. The POSITION of each LETTER corresponds to the NUMBER (1 - 8) missing in the longitude and latidude numbers. For example, to decode to a word TRAILWAYS, you will assign a number from 1 to 9. It will look like this:

T R A I L W A Y S G C
1 2 3 4 5 6 2 7 8 9 0

Coordinates:
N26° U0. D95 W081.A0.U23
N26° _ 0. _ 9 5 W081. _ 0. _ 2 3

The 4rd stage(Final) is an ammo box. Please sign the log book and return to its location.

***Bonita Beach road extension is currently being paved. When approaching the construction site, take the dirt road to your left. Continue to drive on Bonita Beach Road (dirt road) approx. 3 miles before you take a left to Poor Mans Pass.

P.S. The Heartbreakers are waiting to serve you an ice cold beer.
