Enjoy a loop walk around Kensington
Gardens. If you begin at
the Lancaster Gate tube station, the walk will take you
about 2 miles and maybe 90
minutes as you search for the 6 caches and enjoy the views. Posted hours for the park are 6 am to dusk all year round. The park is lush with flowers right now, and the large green open spaces give
it a sense of peacefulness. Dozens of park benches line the walkways for a quick
lunch or a lingering visit with a good novel. The Long Water is
filled with birds at this time in the season (February), and offers many
opportunities for photography or bird feeding.
Kensington Gardens #2 will be found near the coordinates above, which
are placed near The Magazine, which I found out later is the headquarters for
the Park Police. No matter; they can't see what you are doing because of the
tree cover. While setting this one up, I erected the tripod and took pictures of
the flowers in the trees to justify my 15 minutes in the area.
You will need to leave the pathway to retrieve or replace the cache,
and you will approach a temporary fence guarding a closed area with trees and
shrubs. Do not enter the closed area by climbing the fence! (See the picture clue for additional information.)
This cache cannot be seen from ground level, and you will need to search for some fishing line. Once you locate the line, the cache location will be obvious. If you locate the line and the cache, open the cache carefully to reach the log, and close it tightly to make sure it is moisture resistant.
The cache contains a log only, so please bring your own pen or pencil. When replacing the cache, make sure it is protected from view just as you found it.
