Geocache Description:

Difficulty is 4 stars if you math is bad, and 1 star if you math is good. The coordinates are the first of five locations you will have to visit before going to the final cache site.

There are only five members of the math club, but they got together and put out a cache. “We don’t want it to be too easy” said Niles. “But, we don’t want it to be too hard either” piped in Max. He continued “Your idea requires a masters degree in Math. Even I have trouble with intersections of circles with lines.” Nich jumped in and said “Let’s make a logic puzzle.” It is the same thought process as Mathematics without numbers!!” So, Max, Niles, Nich, Todd, and Anita came up with an idea for a two part cache.

The first part requires running all over town and answering questions about five locations. All you have to do is determine the color and the numerical address of the location. In fact, if you have a good map or have lived here a while, you may not even have to leave the house. Here are the clues (you will need them in the second part).

1. N 32 degrees, 17.604 minutes, W 106 degrees, 46.130 minutes. You are in the middle of a vacant lot. Look north and you will see an array of doors. What color are the doors? What is the address? [5/1/2009 Note: The lot is not as vacant as it once was, but you can still see the array of doors.]

2. N 32 degrees, 18.586 minutes, W 106 degrees, 46.635 minutes. What color is this object and what is the address of the closest building? (When you finish, tell me what you think this thing is and encrypt your answer). [4/20/2008 Note: there is some construction going on and when you go to the coordinates, you will not find anything. The 'yellow' object will be across the street to the west. The address is 200.]

3. N 32 degrees, 21.098 minutes, W 106 degrees, 45.847 minutes. You are in a parking lot next to a building. What color is the roof and what is the address?

4. N 32 degrees, 16.975 minutes, W 106 degrees, 45.777 minutes. You have to figure out the color and address without help here. (Another clue lost to progress. Use Green 1950)

5. N 32 degrees, 19.059 minutes, W 106 degrees, 44.860 minutes. Again, you are in a parking lot. Look at the building’s roof. It is two colors, but you have already used one of the colors. What is the other color and what is the address.

Now for the math (I lied before about not doing math)

1. Divide the first address by 2.

2. Multiply the second address by 8.

3. Divide the third address by 4.

4. Multiply the fourth address by 2.

5. Divide the fifth address by 25.

The actual cache is at North HF degrees, CD.CFB minutes and West CKD degrees, BF.DJA minutes.

Here are the values for the letters.

A = First digit of Anita’s house number

B = Last digit of Anita’s house number

C = First digit of Nich’s house number

D = Second digit of Nich’s house number

E = First digit of Todd’s house number

F = Middle digit of Todd’s house number

G = Last digit of Todd’s house number

H = First digit of Niles’ house number

I = Second digit of Niles’ house number

J = Last digit of Max’s house number

K = The only number left

The following statements will help you find out who lives in which colored house and their house number.

1. There are only two house numbers higher than Anita’s house number.

2. The white house has the highest house number.

3. Max, who hates orange, has the house with the lowest number.

4. Todd had a party in his blue house, who’s number is just lower than the yellow house.

5. Nich’s house number is not the largest, but the house number is the one just higher than the yellow house. The cache is a tupperware container with a first finders book of logic puzzles, 2004 baseball cards, playing cards, a map ruler, a stress ruler, a calculator, pocket protector and a few other odds and ends.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
