Geocache Description:

A spy treking adventure on the road to Hana where you infiltrate 4 waterfalls. sequential waterfalls

Note: This hike, although challenging, is fun and well-known enough to be fully detailed in many travel books. There is even guided tours that go to the first few waterfalls on this adventure. However the actual cache is about 600 meters farther upstream then most people go (although the last waterfall is also detailed in the travel books) and Requires about 100 feet of swimming so be prepared to take off your shoes and put everything in a plastic bag and swim. What I find works best is if you bring some garbage bags with you and when you get to the swimming part put your shoes and anything else you do not want to get wet in the bag with some air so it all floats and swim. Do not attempt this in the rain because of Flash Floods !!

PLEASE READ THE LOGS OF THIS CACHE!!! There have been many geocachers attempting this cache who take the wrong path in the bamboo forest and got lost.. read the logs of this cache PLEASE so you do not make the same mistakes !!!!

Bamboo forest

In case you don't have a book (like Maui Revealed pg 235)
Park across from a small grove of Cook Island pine trees 6/10 of a mile past mile marker 6 on Hwy 360 (the road to Hana).

Parking is at:
20' 53.124 N
156' 12.483W

Follow the trail down through the bamboo, cross the stream and follow the trail upstream after crossing the stream. There is a tree blocking your way to the left - climb around it and keep going upstream. You'll soon hear waterfall #1 - some people miss this waterfall (even the book misses it) it is a small stream that feeds into the Na'ili'ili-haele stream from the left... the trail passes right by it but the trail is covered by 25 to 30 foot high bamboo so you do not see it unless you get off the trail (see photo of waterfall #1).

Keep moving upstream. Cross the stream by boulder hopping, and continue the trail on the other side of the stream. You'll soon come to waterfall #2 (first waterfall from the Na'ili'ili-haele stream) . The trail continues around this pool by following the trail to the left. A few meters upstream from this will will come accross waterfall #3 . This is a big pool for swimming and it a GREAT spot for swimming. This is as far as MOST tourists will get. (But you're not most tourists...)

Waterfall #1 (missed by most)

Waterfall #3 (#2 from Na'ili'ili-haele stream)

On the left side of the falls is a steep trail which leads to a 12-foot sheer rock wall and a ROPE hanging down its face (EDIT: there is now a ladder on this rock wall making this climb a LOT easier). Climb the rope to the top of falls #3, and continue walking upstream.

Here's where it separates the superagents from the tourists: keep going upstream at some point the sides of the stream bed are going to get too steep to walk along in fact there will be cliffs on both sides of you so you're going to have to jump in and swim 100 feet upstream to a small waterfall (approx. 6 feet tall) which you will have to climb.

Once you reach the top, walk around a bend and you'll see your target - a 40 foot waterfall and beautiful swimming pool. The sun hits the pool most of the day, so you can warm up from your swim.

The Coordinates posted should get you within 15 Meters of where the cache is hidden.. Because of the steep rock walls it is hard to get a really good reading.. took TWO GPSs up there and one GPS was reading 20* 52.711N and 156* 12.637W While the other GPS at the same spot was reading 20* 52.791N and 156* 12.634W ?!?!?

The cache is hidden along the cliff wall. It is NOT in one of the small caves that you see under and along the cliff falls. You should NOT put your self in danger finding it and should NOT have to climb up the falls or put yourself in any place where you can fall so don't do that. It is NOT buried. It is in a PERFECT spot for a geocache. Almost like the place where it is hidden was made for the geocache to sit in. From where it is hidden the water from the waterfall and the pool will NEVER reach it so it will not wash away in a flash flood and is far enough away from the pool that mugglers should not find it. read the Hints/clues for some big hints..

Cache is a 8 quart tupperware box so you can bring semi-large items to this cache... just bring bags to keep them from getting wet on your swim

Sometimes there is cash in this cache.. If you find cash only take half of the cash unless it is only like 2 dollars or less..

Good luck. This message will self-destruct in 5...4...3...
