Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Boyson Park In Marion Iowa. The terrain is flat.

The precise location of the cache must be found by determining the location of the intersection of 2 line segments. The location of two end points are given. You have to find the other end points from a description of their locations. The coordinates at the top of the page are near the location of one of the end points. There is nothing to find or see at the above coordinates. Do not go there. Line A: The first line segment extends between two points called Landmark1 and Arbitrary2. Landmark1 is the lion on the downstream side of the west end of the 16 Ave. bridge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The coordinates at the top of the page are in the general area of the other end of the line segment. The exact location of the other end of the line segment, point Arbitrary2, is N42 06.000 W91 35.636 (deg min). There is nothing to find or see at the location Arbitrary2. Do not go there. Line B: The other line segment extends between points called Landmark3 and Arbitrary4. Landmark3 is in Wanatee park at the north end of the concrete ramp leading up hill to Red Cedar Lodge from the parking lot. Measure this point at the parking lot end of the ramp railing.  Point Arbitrary4 is N42 07.139 W91 45.555. There is nothing to find or see at the location Arbitrary4. Do not go there. Get out your high school algebra book or find another way to solve for the intersection of two lines. There is very little room in this cache so I would prefer that no items be stored or traded in this cache. The cache is a 3.5" dia x 3" tall container with a screw lid. Don't put the lid on too tight, it will become very hard to open.

Below are methods to find the cache location. West longitude must be assigned negative values.

OR

No pencils, no paper, no math method

Enter the line segment end points as way points, into your GPSr or maping computer program. Plot a single route that runs between these way points, along each line. For example you could plot a route from landmark1 to arbitrary2 to landmark3 to arbitrary4. The route lines will cross at the cache location. Just zoom in on the crossing point of the lines and read the cache location using the cursor and or set a way point where the lines cross.

The location of the crossing point determined by most GPSr units with this method will be at the crossing point of segments of great circles, which are not straight lines.  This location is actually about 20 feet north of the cache location.
