Geocache Description:

A virtual cache with great views over Whitby

It is both bizarre and disgraceful that the lovely town of Whitby has no caches! To rectify this we have set this cache at the site of Bram Stoker's memorial seat - placed there to commemorate the spot from which he used to let Whitby's views inspire him to write the classic Dracula!

Unfortunately some miserable so and so (you know who you are- you naughty Goths!) keeps pinching the plaque from the actual seat but these co-ordinates will take you right to it There used to be a micro cache under the seat (film canister size) but since this went missing then we will make it a virtual one-as we did originally.

To claim the cache sit on the seat and have a picture taken of you (and your GPSr) with the lovely views in the background. Then upload the image to the site WITHIN 24 HOURS OF LOGGING (if you can't upload a picture when you are logging, then please don't log till you can or post a note in the meantime.) and enjoy the views - many of which are mentioned in the novel.

Some examples -
1) Behind you and to the right is East Crescent - Mina and Lucy stayed in one of the buildings there during their summer holidays, also no. 7 was where Dracula's lawyer stayed when he was arranging the relocation of the 50 coffins full of Transylvanian soil.
2) The hotel behind you and to your left is the Royal Hotel. The lobby of this contains pictures of Bram Stoker. In the story Mina searches for Lucy near here and spots a vampire in the churchyard atop the hill.
3) Walking down the hill you reach the point when, later in the story they see a figure in their churchyard seat whose glowing eyes they mistake for for reflections from the setting sun.

There are many more locations in the town - Stoker seems to have used the town pretty much as is, without falsifying elements - so if you are a fan you can have an entertaining time following the clues.
