In the border of Dévaványa you will find the "second Hortobágy".
A great plain full with medicinal plants, what is a part of the Körös-Maros National Park, and a lot of protected animal and plant lives here. One of the leading natural beauty of the area is the bustard (túzok in hungarian).
To protect this animal, in 1975 this Bustard natural reserve was founded here.
In Central-Europe this is the home of the biggest bustard population, and the visitor can check them in their natural environment, and in the museum too.
The most capable of living species of the bastards are live in the northern part of Békés.
Because of the agricultural works some of the nests became in big danger. The surviving of the nests and the eggs are coordinated by the Bustard Natural Reserve in Dévaványa. The bustard raising settlement is closed for the visitors, but you can get all of the informations you need in the visitors center (N:47.04,873 E:020.55,855).
You can hire a guide, who can show you the field works too.
There is an exhibition too in the museum, what shows the old mood of the Nagy-Sárrét and the natural beauties of the region.
The other part of the exhibition shows the bustard protection works in the area. In the outdoor part you can visit the traditional Hungarian animals, like "szürkemarha", "rackajuh" "házibivaly", and you can check the bustards from a look-out tower.
The reserve and the museum is open from 1. april - 31. october, all day except monday from 9.00 to 17.00.
The can log the cache all year, it's not on the closed areas.
ATTENTION!!
The cache is on the area of the Körös-Maros Natural Park! This is a higly protected area. Approaching the cache is authorized only from the main road, following the GPS signs.
The cache was placed after the written permission of the Natural Park.
