How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

A walk in of a mile or two depending on your start point, across often muddy terrain. Some uphill work and a number of stiles to get to the cache site. It is recommended that you use footwear suitable for the ground conditions.

The cache, our second, is once again a medium sized plastic container wrapped in a carrier bag. Initially contains a computer game CD, grumpy plastic duck and Mickey Mouse figures, fridge magnet, postcards, and a few more old coins from the days when money actually bought quite a lot for a little. Also a TB to get things started. Beware the 'characters' inside the lid!Near here stood the ancient timber farmhouse called 'Dumkins'. Dating from the 15th century it was the last survivor in the area of this type of early farmhouse. Sadly, although a listed structure, it was dismantled and allowed to rot until beyond redemption. Please note that the cache is not within or near the derelict building that can be seen from the cache site (see photo). It is not safe to enter this building which is also private property. If you approach this cache uphill from Wincle you can make a really nice circular walk by continuing from the cache site to the canal feeder, across the Dane, and back via the trout farm. If approaching from Rushton the track is a public right of way so you are ok to walk it. The private signs relate to vehicular traffic because of problems with people parking down towards the Dane.
