Geocache Description:

One of the best things about Geocaching is finding those "hidden treasures", the locations that you would not have gone to without having an arrow show you the way. This cache leads you to something you don't often find, an urban "hidden treasure".

With the ease of the internet, finding information manually is quickly becoming a lost art. This cache gives you a chance to stretch your mind as well as your legs.

To fulfill this quest you must find "The Legend of Monkeybrad". The quest is not perilous, but you will have to work a little. Not to worry though, there will be many helpers along the way.

The above coordinates will lead you to a plaza, where you will find your first two helpers. They are usually reading, and although I have seen them there at all hours, this cache can only be hunted Monday through Thursday 9AM-9PM, Friday & Saturday 9AM-5PM or Sunday from 1PM-6PM. Once you find them, have a seat between them, don't worry they are friendly. You are now ready for your journey to begin. Say good bye to your new friends and proceed for 36 paces at 100 degrees.

At this point you are faced with a choice, which path to take. The Low Road, is handicapped accessible, and will lead you through a claustrophobic adventure with a puzzle to reach the cache. The High Road is more difficult physically, but there is no puzzle standing between you and the cache. So make your choice and proceed.

The Low Road - Proceed 3 paces at 100 degrees, then 9 paces at 15 degrees, then 3 paces at 280 degrees. Here you are faced with a conundrum, your next instruction is to proceed 4 paces at 95 degrees, but how do you do that without ending up in the same place? I will leave that up to you, once you figure it out proceed 7 steps at 180 degrees to a large post, where you will find the roads rejoined.

The High Road - Summon your courage to tackle this terrain and go 8 paces at 0 degrees, then 4 paces at 325 degrees, then 4 paces at 180 degrees, then 7 paces at 100 degrees then 2 paces at 110 degrees, to a large post at this point the roads are rejoined.

Now you are ready for the final leg of the journey. Proceed 8 paces at 115 degrees and then look near your knees around 796.587. The Legend of Monkeybrad is in your reach. Take your time to examine this treasure, sign the log and go forth with your head held high.

This cache was placed with permission of the Linebaugh Library, without whose invaluable assistance this would not have been possible. Please take some time to look around at the fantastic facility and talk to the staff, they are geo-friendly. There are all kinds of things to see here. Don't miss the children's area decorated by local artist Norris Hall, the reading room, and if you are interested in genealogy they have a fantastic Historical Research room. While I would ask that you take some precautions to keep the cache location concealed from muggles, feel free to let the staff know why you are there, they could probably help you out, they excel at helping people find information. You might even check out a book!
