Geocache Description:

This cache, a small silver metal box, is near the historic City Road Lock on Regent's Canal.

Regent's Canal was constructed in the early 1800s to link the Grand Junction Canal's Paddington Arm with the River Thames at Limehouse Basin in the Docklands. The cache is near the City Road Basin and its corresponding City Road Lock, which was opened in 1820 to serve nearby wharves and factories. The towpath next to the canal was originally used by horses, with narrow tractors starting to replace them in 1953. By 1956, the last horse drawn cargo traveled along the canal, and during the ensuing years, the canal was no longer used for cargo and became a pleasure waterway for long boats, canoes, kayaks, and other watercraft. The former towpath is heavily used today by walkers, bicyclists, and joggers and is a pleasant alternative to noisy roadways above. The section of the towpath leading to City Road Lock is open 24 hours, and can be entered at Danbury Street. You are looking for a breath strip container. Magnets are involved. The cache contains a log only, so bring a pen or pencil. After you locate the cache, please return it to the same location so that it is protected from the elements and hidden from the casual observer.
