Geocache Description:

Deze cache voert je in een wandeling van 4 kilometer langs karakteristieke locaties in het havenstadje Hoorn en de nabij gelegen natuur.

Inleiding
Op het bovengenoemde coördinaat kun je gratis je auto parkeren. Vanaf de snelweg A7 neem je afslag 8 (Hoorn). Over de Provinciale Weg (N302 / N506) rijd je nu naar het havengebied. Volg de bordjes ‘Havens’ en later ‘P Havens’. Volg op de Willemsweg het bord ‘Sportcomplex Hollandia’. Rijd nu over de straat ‘Nieuwe Wal’ naar de parkeerplaats. Het Centraal Station van Hoorn is 1,5 kilometer verwijderd van deze plek. Zie de plattegrond voor de route.

De route neemt je mee door het oude centrum en de haven van de stad Hoorn. Onderweg zul je kunnen genieten van de architectuur van de vele 17e eeuwse panden welke in de VOC-tijd gebouwd zijn. Tijdens de route zul je de scheepsjongens van Bontekoe ontmoeten. Het einde van de route loopt door de natuur nabij het centrum.
De antwoorden op de vragen heb je nodig om het volgende coördinaat van de route te bepalen.
Je hebt bij deze cache een kompas nodig om een hoek te bepalen.
Graven is niet nodig.
In de zomermaanden kan de omgeving van de cache flink zijn begroeid.

Achtergrond
De avonturen van de scheepsjongens van Bontekoe spelen zich af in de tijd van de Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC). Het verhaal, gebaseerd op een waargebeurd scheepsjournaal uit de 17e eeuw, is in 1923 vastgelegd door Johan Fabricius.

De drie jongens Hajo, Rolf en Padde gaan, in het verhaal van Fabricius, met de Oostindiëvaarder de ‘Nieuw Hoorn’ in 1618 naar de Oost. Het schip staat onder bevel van schipper Willem IJsbrantszoon Bontekoe, een bekende figuur uit Hoorn. Het werd een onfortuinlijke reis waarbij ze op een gegeven moment niet ver van Sumatra schipbreuk leden. Onderweg naar de voormalige Nederlandse kolonie ontstaat brand en ontploft de lading buskruit. Een aantal bemanningsleden, onder wie Hajo, Rolf en Padde, weten Sumatra te bereiken. Daar raken ze het contact met de anderen kwijt. Uiteindelijk bereiken ze weer open zee en gaan op een vlot naar Java waar ze Hollandse schepen vinden en ook de rest van de bemanning, inclusief schipper Bontekoe. Ondanks deze barre avonturen weten ze Batavia te bereiken, alwaar ze worden ontvangen door Jan Pieterszoon Coen, de eveneens uit Hoorn afkomstige gouverneur-generaal van de VOC.

This cache takes you in a walk of 4 kilometers at historic locations in the seaport Hoorn and the nature near by.

Introduction
On the abovementioned co-ordinate is a car park where you can park your car for free. On the motorway A7 you take exit 8 (Hoorn). Via the Provinciale Weg (N302 / N506) you drive to the harbour area. Follow the signs ‘Havens’ and ‘P Havens’. Drive on the Willemsweg until you find a sign ‘Sportcomplex Hollandia’ (follow this sign). Go via a street called ‘Nieuwe Wal’ to the car park.
The distance from the central train station of Hoorn (‘Hoorn CS’) is about 1,5 kilometer to this place. Look at the picture for an overview of the route.

The trip takes you to the old centre and the harbour of the city Hoorn. During the trip you can enjoy the architecture of the buildings of the 17th centry that are built in the VOC-period. On the trip you will meet the ship boys of Bontekoe. The trip ends in a park near by the centre.
You will need the answers of the questions to determine the next location of the trip.
A compass is needed to determine an angle.
There is no need to dig.
In the summermonths, the cache location can be overgrown with bushes.

Background
The adventures of the ship boys of Bontekoe took place in the period of the ‘Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC)’. The true story is based on a ship log from the 17th century, and is published in 1923 by Johan Fabricius.

Three boys called Hajo, Rolf and Padde sailed, like the story of Fabricius tells us, with a ship called ‘Nieuw Hoorn’ in 1618 from The Netherlands to the East. The ship was in command of captain Willem IJsbrantszoon Bontekoe, a well-known man of the city Hoorn, The Netherlands. During the travel, many dangerous events happen. On the way to the former Dutch colony the ship gets on fire and the load of gunpowder explodes. Near to Sumatra the ship sinks. A couple of men, amongst others Hajo, Rolf and Padde, reach Sumatra. In Sumatra they lose contact with the other men. They manage to build a raft and after a while they reach Java. There they find other Dutch ships and the rest of the crew, including captain Bontekoe. Despite the difficult journey they reach Batavia, where Jan Pieterszoon Coen, the governor-general of the VOC, who is also from Hoorn, welcomes them.
