Geocache Description:

Rockland County Parks Geocaching Permit #RCDER02

Welcome to our first cache. Your walk will take you to a county park, the Samuel G. Fisher/Mt. Ivy Environmental Park. Hours are 8 AM to sunset. There are at least three possible entrances to this park so make sure you choose the right one.

You will walk along the right-of-way of the NJ & NY railroad. No need to worry about trains, there aren't even tracks. The last train ran through here over 60 years ago. The railroad was completed in October of 1874. The railroad ran to Haverstraw. The NJ & NY eventually became part of the Erie. In 1938 the last passenger train ran to Haverstraw. By 1940 passenger trains ran only as far as Spring Valley and the end of track was at Thiells. By 1948 freight service was irregular to Thiells and soon after Spring Valley became the end of track. If you parked at the American Legion, this is very close to the site of the Pomona station.

For stage one of this cache you are looking for an old mile post left over from the railroad. The milepost is marked "JC xx" with xx being a number, in miles to Jersey City. You'll take this number and subtract it from the last three digits in both the latitude and longitude of the following coordinates in order to obtain the coordinates for the second and final stage:
41 10.985, 74 02.459

At the final stage you are looking for an ammo box. Enjoy!!

Overall you'll walk about 2 miles.
