Stanton Drew is one of the largest Stone Circle in the UK which is thought to date from the period 3000-2000BC. However, this is a much quieter location than Avebury or Stonehenge and you can enjoy a peaceful visit to an amazing location. More details are given on the English Heritage website here.
Please respect the history of this location when you visit and follow this code of practice. This is a scheduled monument, managed by English Heritage and on private property. It is only open during daylight hours. There is an entry charge collected at the honesty box.
There are three stone circles at Stanton Drew and in the main circle which measures 370 feet there are 26 remaining standing stones and others which have fallen. The circles date roughly to the late Neolithic and early Bronze ages (about 3000-2000BC) and were thought to have an important part in social and religious activities. In addition to these stones there are others nearby thought to be part of the complex, for example three standing in the garden of the village pub "The Druid's Arms".
The circle is part of a farm and there are likely to be cows in the fields so dogs aren't allowed into the site. There is limited parking very nearby.
In order to claim this cache, message us to tell us who signed the sign at these coordinates. The sign is at the entrance, entry not necessary but you'll get limited / distant views of the stones. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters can get this far but sadly the site is not wheel-chair accessible.
Under no circumstances should you post the answers in your log or post photographs of the answer. You must physically visit this cache in order to log it, please do not abuse this requirement (I regret that I will have to delete logs that do not meet these requirements).
