Geocache Description:

**** A note about the structures at this site: Big Sabine Bay is located less than two miles from Portofino on the east end of Pensacola Beach, and is an amazing shallow water "bay" on the south shore of Santa Rosa Sound. Unique to this area for its size and diversity, the bay and surrounding areas offer much for exploring and education. The shallow waters are protected by a large sand bar that projects into the Sound approximately 1,000 feet from shore. These estuarine waters provide protection for several species of spawning fish, crab, rays, and other marine life. Close to shore one can enter canals that wind through dunes, pine groves, and marshes. Osprey and Heron nest at Big Sabine Bay, and to the west one can explore on land the ruins of a fish hatchery built over 50 years ago.
