Ames Geocache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

walddr: As this is a former Navy base, I guess this is as good a day as any to archive this venerable cache. NASA Ames is in a state of change (as demonstrated by the planting of the shuttle model at ground Zero) and as such, I am freeing up this area for anyone else who may wish to place a cache. Good luck to all and happy Caching!!!! - Walddr

This cache is ON Moffett Field, in the heart of the NASA Ames Research Park. You will need to have a Federal/State issued identification, such as a driver's license to enter Moffett Field. And you need to have a valid reason to be there; Some people have had trouble getting onto Moffett Field if they say they are seeking a geocache, but I was told that if you specify a building when you reach the main gate they will let you on. So...

*when they ask where you're heading tell them you are going to building 17, the old Navy HQ building to see the old benchmark from 1948 to the right of the entrance.* You really must see the benchmark, its quite unusual. Also, while you are on the base you might consider visiting the museum where they have images of the old blimp that was in the big hangar. There is a rich US Naval History here and many memorials still dot the base.

Anyway, from the building 17 you can walk to the cache, and they say that's fine. This cache contains many cool NASA things like mission stickers etc. This is a must stop for NASA fans.
