Kätkö sijaitsee vanhan kultakaivoksen lähistöllä. Voit jättää autosi parkkipaikalle, joka sijaitsee N 68° 23.597 E 027° 24.477 ja jatkaa siitä kävelemällä sinisillä tolpilla merkittyä polkua pitkin (n. 0,7 km).
Luton kuilu oli alkuvuodesta 1903 jo 24 metriä syvä. Pohjavesitaso oli saavutettu. Vedentulo oli suuri: 6000 – 10 000 litraa tunnissa. Huhtikuussa kuilulle tuotiin höyrykone ja pumppauslaitteet. Kallio oli niin vetinen, että ”kuilun pohjalla seistiin kuin alituisessa rankkasateessa”. Kultaa ei Luton kuilusta löytynyt juuri lainkaan. Kun kaivaminen lopetettiin, oli kuilu 51,5 metriä syvä eli syvin Prospektorin kaivoskuiluista.
Kuilu on edelleen olemassa ja kaivosrakennus on uudelleen rakennettu muutama vuosi sitten. Sopii hyvin tauon pitämiseen, tulipaikka ja puita löytyy.
The cache is located nearby old gold-mine. You can left your car in a parking area, which you found at N 68° 23.597 E 027° 24.477 and walk by trail which has marked with blue poles (about 0,7 km).
Prospector Oy company´s Lutto shaft was 24 meters deep early in 1903. Water was pouring in through the walls of the shaft at the rate of 6 000 to 10 000 liters per hour. A steam engine and pumps were installed in April. The bedrock was so cracked that men at the bottom of the shaft were working under constant downpour. Hardly any gold was found in this shaft. When the shaft was finally abandoned, it reached as deep as 51,5 meters; the deepest shaft of the company.
The shaft is still there and the shaft house has re-built few years ago. Here is a good place for having a break; you can even make a camp fire.
