Geocache Description:

A scenic lake, a tree-lined trail and a stream running above and below the earth; all within Rockwood Park.

From Saint John, travel west on the Sandy Point Road towards the regional hospital. Go past the Joshua Group property on your right. Continue up the hill and then turn right onto the Dark Lake Rd. Follow the road to the concrete blocks and park. Walk through the blocks and follow the Mayflower Lake trail. Cedars line the trail and offer a limited vista of the water, but there are a couple of spots to view the lake (Pic0). Once you reach the end of the lake look for the outlet stream going under the trail and into a small cave-like opening on the right (Pic1a). At this point you can start following the stream or (easier route) continue hiking the trail for another 100 meters. The trail turns to the right, slightly downhill then turns left, going uphill. Don’t go uphill. At N45°18.364’ W66°03.916’ ditch the trail and look for the stream (Pic2). Follow the stream for about 70 meters until you see a large rocky outcrop on the left (Pic3). The stream runs along the bottom of the outcrop and then disappears into the earth. If you walk along the base of the outcrop stop and listen. You should hear running water beneath your feet. The valley narrows (you’ll pass between 3 small birches) then the stream reappears from the bowels of the underworld (Pic4). Continue downstream. The cache is adjacent to you, on the west side of the valley. Cache is a Rubbermaid style container wrapped in camo duct tape. GPSr WAAS accuracy was 2.9m when cache was hidden.
