A watershed is a geographic area that contains all of the
rivulets and streams that drain into a river, river system, or
other body of water, (in this case, Long Creek.) The ridge of land
right here divides the Long Canyon watershed from the Cache Creek
watershed, and it is called a water parting. Go over to the
top of the saddle and you view the Napa/Yolo county line, looking
off to the North.
There is always a nice breeze blowing over this ridge. The view
looks just like hillsides of chaparral melting off into the
distance, but an old-timer I talked to said that elk sometimes come
out of Cache Creek and over this saddle into Long Canyon in their
endless wanderings.
To log this cache, take a look at the two rusty old stoves, and
write down the numbers on the top of either one. They look like
dates. Then go ahead a log this when you get back home, but be sure
to fire off an email to me, or I will be forced to delete your
entry. No need to wait for confirmation.
The Top of the Watershed can be logged as a locationless cache
by providing the GPS coordinates from your regional top of the
watershed, a picture with your GPSr in it, and a small gif. or
jpeg. of the topo map of the watershed, or part of the watershed
including the top. Maps can be found at web sites like
www.topozone.com.
