PLEASE NOTE: This is a LETTERBOX HYBRID geocache. There is no
trading with this cache and everything that is in the cache
should remain there for the next person. Letterboxing is a precursor of
geocaching, using compass bearings and other clues to lead
the seeker to the letterbox. Typically a letterbox
contains a logbook and a stamp. If you wish, you may
stamp your personal journal with the rubber stamp in the
letterbox (cache); then you may stamp the logbook with your
personal stamp if you have one - if you don't have a stamp,
just sign the logbook. But be sure to leave the stamp,
logbook, inkpad, and instructions in the
container.
In
addition to your GPS, you will need a compass to find this
letterbox hybrid geocache. You will also need to bring your
own pencil and if you have a small rubber stamp and a journal,
bring those along, too.
The letterbox is a small lock'n'lock box. Please be sure to
snap on the lid securely and to be very careful about replacing the
cache/letterbox. Only your care in replacing it will keep it
from being discovered by others.
This
letterbox hybrid is called "Best of Luck" and I hope you are
fortunate in your quest to find it.
Locate the
trailhead at the posted coordinates and walk north until you come
to a trail crossing. Turn left and follow the trail roughly
southwest. Continue to walk along this trail, which runs a
ridge that parallels a nearby shopping center below and to the
right. If you see a very small tree with an orange ribbon on
your left, you will know you are on the right path. Continue
on. Stop when you see a green underground cable marker on
your left. It is about 4' tall and hard to miss. Notice
that there are numbers on this marker. Write them
down.
Now add these
numbers together and you will come up with a 2-digit figure.
Multiply this figure by six. Turn around and backtrack along
the trail exactly this number of double-paces (start on your right
foot and count every time it hits the
ground).
When you reach the
end, turn right (due South). Remember the original 2-digit
figure (the one you determined by adding the digits on the
marker)? Walk that number of paces off the trail until you
see a slim, multi-trunked maple tree. There are at least 5
thin trunks around a central opening. Tucked inside this
crotch is the letterbox you seek, covered with a few other
branches. Be sure to replace the cache carefully so that the
location of the box is not compromised.
Best of luck to
you, friends!
