Hold on to your hats! Welcome to the windiest cache in South Africa.
This cache is at Windy Corner in Kwazulu-Natal just 2km out of van Reenen at van Reenen's Pass on the N3. A good cache to do on the road. (Van Reenen is 27km from Harrismith but on the Kwazulu-Natal side of the Free State/Natal border.)
NB: You must approach the cache from the South (Natal) side. You can no longer turn right from the other side of the road. This would be not only illegal but also very dangerous. Please be careful when approcahing this cache as the pass is a dangerous road.
Elevation: 1699m
There is a twist to this cache; you have to approach the cache from a certain direction, unless you're a rock climber! You can drive almost up to the cache but the track is slightly overgrown at the entrance. Of course the walk is great anyway and not too far.
Please be careful that nothing blows away when you take it out as the wind gets very strong. Try retiring to the car with it if you drove up. Also, the wind is strong enough to make driving smaller cars at the top of the hill very hard so rather walk.
