If you stay in front of the entrance-door of the Great Church, you can see marble tables on both side close to the door. Check the left one and you will find 3 dates. Add these numbers and that will be the password of the virtual cache. Have fun in Pápa!

Pápa is a town with a population of 35 thousand, situated north of Lake Balaton, at the foot of Bakony Mountains and is one of the most beautiful Baroque towns having a historical feature. It was an important centre already in the centuries after the foundation of the state. The Garai family, which was one of the most influential families of the country, built a castle in the town in the 14th century. As the castle was strengthened several times, it could resist the Turkish sieges: it was occupied by the Turks only for a short period. The reformed college founded in 1531 became the centre of Reformation which became widespread in Hungary during the 16th century, and it also became a significant cultural centre.
The baroque Esterházy Palace which, after being renewed, received an Europa Nostra Award, was built on the site of the pulled-down castle at the end of the 18th century, partly using the construction material of the pulled-down castle. It gave home for the Museum of Local History, for the Gallery and for the library which is located in the chapel of the eastern wing decorated by beautiful frescoes. The palace park lying between Tapolca streamlet and Bakony brook gives a wonderful sight with its century-old trees and scarce plants.
Similarly to the palace, the Great Church built in copf style was also constructed on commission of Károly Esterházy, bishop of Eger, in 1786. The wonderful frescoes on its vault and in its chapel are the work of the baroque master, Maulbertsch.
The characteristic houses, monuments of Fo Square, its uniform style, give a genuine baroque atmosphere to the city.
The Calvary originating from the 18th century is also a baroque monument. The painted wooden sculptures of statio chapel are wonderful. There is an excellent view on the surrounding landscape from Calvary Hill.
The Museum of the History of Reformed Church opened in the building of the former reformed church shows an exhibition of artistic furniture and devotional objects.
