This is the closest land point to where this plane is resting on the bottom of Huntington Lake.
Note: The cache was replaced 8/8/08 and was moved slightly. The new coordinates are about 20 feet east of the original (listed) location, on a little trail through the brush. Hopefully these coordinates will be a little more muggle-proof. When we get back here with a GPSr, we'll update the coordinates. Until then, steer 20 feet east of the location given!

This cach is in memory of the 6 crew members that were killed on December 6, 1943 when their Consolidated B-24 Liberator crashed into Huntington Lake while on a search and rescue mission over the Sierra in a snow storm. The cach is on the point of land that is closest to where the plane still rests.
The plane was not found until 1955 when the lake was drained for repairs to the dam. At that time the bodies of the crew were removed. Two crew members parachuted out prior to the crash and survied the crash.
Most of the plane still remains on the bottom of the lake today.
The 5th grade class of Big Creek Elementary School established a memorial to these men on December 6 1991. Location of memorial is N37 15.335 W119.09.653
The cach is only accessible when there is no snow. By boat land at beach at N37 14.099 W119 12.469 and watch for rocks.
To drive and walk to the cach park at approximately N37 13.590, W119 13.819. Park out of the way of the gate and walk along the road that takes you over the dams.
The signal to GPS are intermittent when close to the cache due to trees, thus the rating of the cache.
