Geocache Description:

Petroglyphs along the Green River in Utah. You'll need a canoe!

While you're canoeing the Green River in Utah, check out these petroglyphs on the canyon walls. You'll only be able to access this virtual cache via the Green River. We went in the summer, but it looks like there is the sand bar near the petroglyphs that is exposed most of the year.

The foliage and bugs are the biggest challenge on this cache. The Tamarisk along the edge of the river boarders on being a curse, but we found a spot to enter at N38 40.260 W110 04.891 about 30 feet from a large boulder in the sand bar. Once you are through the Tamarisk, its smooth sailing on a trail that runs along side the canyon wall. A few hundred yards and the petroglyphs can be seen up on the canyon wall. There is a mound of dirt against the wall that will allow you to climb up about 10 feet and stand on the shelf to be at eye level with the petroglyphs.

If you are going to be on the river, this is an easy stop, especially if you take the recommended entry point into the bushes. Do yourself a favor and don't bushwhack on this one!

Also, under no conditions should you deface or add to the petroglyphs! Even touching them is likely to affect them.
