Who could imagine, that once the people of Pest liked Kõbánya as their favourite resting place? Moreover this was their wineyard too. There were two wineyard here, the "Ó-hegy" (Old hill), and "Új-hegy" (New hill). Some of the streets remember to theese places. The Guardtower itself are on the Old hill.
In the beggining of the XIX. century it becomes a common thing that thiefs are damaged the vineyards here in Kõbánya. Because of this the mayor of Pest announced an application for planning and building a new guard tower and building. In the next year after the plans of Lõrinc Zofahl, Ferenc Brein started to built up the tower. The romantic style separate building is a tower and a house in one.
The two level guard building with frontispiece and with a rectangle ground-plan is connected to the tower. To the look-out tower you can go up on thin steps, bordered with elegant iron barriers. The door of the 1st floor is garnished with wood-carving. The guard tower helped the work of the vineyard guards through lond decades. The local mayor office planning to bring the local historical collection into this building. Maybe than we can go up to the tower too. From the tower you could see most of the district, including the Szent László church, planned by Ödön Lechler, the Beer factory made in 1912 (wich was the best beer factory in Middle Europe), or the New cemetery, where you can find more than 1 million tomb.
The picture of the guard tower become one part of the coat of arms of Kõbánya.
