This cache takes you to one of our favorite places on earth. Our family hikes this trail over and over, especially on Fridays and so we call all Fridays "Fabulous Fantastic Fire Tower Friday." Our three year old hikes up this in 35-45 minutes, but plan on two hours round trip. It is rated as one of the "Best Hikes of the Appalachian Trail." You'll see why. One of the good things about it is that you can make a loop hike out of it by taking the AT one way and the fire tower road the other way. The shorter way is also the more strenuous. Both trails start at the same place. In the fall, there is a fair amount of hunting activity (black bear mostly) so be aware, make a lot of noise and wear orange.

To get to the trail head, starting at the rafting put-in on US 19 outside of Topton, NC, go South on NC 1310 (River Road/Wayah Road) for about 4 miles and turn left on Otter Creek Rd (NC 1365) toward Tellico Gap. Parking for the trail is 4 miles up this road at Tellico Gap, N 35 16.094 W 083 34.502.

Please rehide the cache well when you are done so that bears don't remove it!
