Geocache Description:

A very LARGE virtual not far from the tourist areas of Santa Barbara.

Visit one of the largest fig trees in North America. It truly is one of the hugest trees you may ever see. Rumor has it that it provides enough shade to cover 16,000 people. We were surprised to find that our waitress at a local restaurant was not familiar with this neat location.

In 1876, a visiting sailor presented the seedling of this Moreton Bay Fig Tree to a local girl who planted it nearby. When the girl moved away a year later, her friend relocated the sapling to this location. The tree now stands 80 feet tall and has an average crown spread of over 176 feet.

To prove that you were at this virtual, email us the answer to these questions:

1) What is the last word on each of the two plaques commemorating the tree?
2) What year was the *last* circumference measurement of the tree, according to the plaques? The answer is *not* 1991!
3) Who has owned the property since 1976?

NEARBY BONUS QUESTION:
How many stories tall was the nearby Potter Hotel before it was lost to a fire in 1921?
