I suggest that you park at N 35 04.121, W 106 29.077, and follow
paths through the Albuquerque Open Space foothills trails to make
your way toward the cache. The last couple of hundred yards will be
off trail.
California artist Gordon Huether created this large outdoor
scuplture for the state's Cultural Corridors public art program.
The $124,000 sculpture was paid for by the U. S. Department of
Transportation, the state and the city of Albuquerque's One Percent
for Art program. The material used in the piece is salvaged
aluminum fuel tanks from military aircraft, as a tip of the hat to
nearby Kirtland Airforce base.
The cache is hidden approximately 75 feet north of the
sculpture. Be cautious of your high-desert surroundings, and the
possibility of rattlesnakes hiding in rock crevices. Due to high
mountain landscape nearby and lots of rocks, GPS signals may bounce
around. If you have trouble finding the cache (which I doubt), then
decipher the clue for a visual hint.
