The Jurassic
Way is a long-distance footpath along a limestone ridge that
traverses quite a lot of the East Midlands, from Banbury to
Stamford - a distance of 88 miles.
Just off the Jurassic Way, near where it passes underneath the
A1 near Stamford is Britain's only four-county point. At this
point, the counties of Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland and
Cambridgeshire (or the Unitary Authority of the City of
Peterborough as it's now called) meet at a single point. The cache
is hidden as close to the exact point as is feasible -
unfortunately the exact point is between a stream and a railway
line, so it pretty inaccessible.
The cache itself is a standard ammo box, spray-painted brown and
green. It's hidden off the main tracks,a nd will require a bit of
scrambling. if sending the children in, beware of the nearby
stream. The hint has unencrypted suggested parking co-ords if you
want to use them - please DO NOT PARK ON THE A1!, as there's no way
to the cache from it, and it's really dangerous to do so. The cache
looks close to the A1, but it's not.
Original cache contents were:
- Logbook/writing implements
- Teddy bear
- Jules Verne book
- Bag of marbles
- Bottle of mineral water (new and sealed)
- Phase-3 wooden monkey number 1 of 28
- Computer fan
- Duck-shaped nail brush
- Scorpion soft toy
