This Cache will take you up the highest elevation of the Pfalz region in SW Germany, the Donnersberg.
Dieser Cache führt dich zur höchsten Erhebung der Pfalz in SW Deutschland, dem Donnersberg.
To find the actual cache location, you have to do some calculation with data gained from the first stage of the Cache. First stage can be found at:
N 49° 37.496’ ; E 007° 55.392’ .
To get to the first stage you have two possibilities. You can (and should) hike up the Donnersberg from the parking area at N 049°38.388’ ; E 007°55.039’. It is a fairly steep trail through the woods and it can be slippery, especially after tough precipitation. So bring sturdy boots, drinks and expect some exercise. Follow the white cross on the trees. Sorry, no baby carriages on this one.
If the mountain itself is not enough for you, the trip can be extended by numerous hiking trails around the Donnersberg.
For the couch potato, there is the alternative to drive up; parking can be found on top as well.
After arriving at stage one you should be able to find the data necessary for your calculations on a sign mounted at the main access gate of the big tower on top of the Donnersberg.
1. What is the height of the tower? abc [m]
2. The tower is used for broadcasting several TV-stations (“Fernsehprogramme”). On which channel (“Kanal”) can the SWR-Bouquet be found? [channel] xy
Use the following key to calculate the final cache location:
N 49° (abc – 157.413)’ [use height of tower]
E 007° 55.(xy + 704)’ [use channel number]
The GPS signal is sometimes a little weak around the cache site. Follow the historic trail of the Celts (an impressive rampart all around the Donnersberg). Coming closer to the final location the wide rampart leads into a smaller trail (follow green signs). Take that trail and this will take you to the green ammo box cache container placed under a heavy rock (watch fingers!) a few meters beside the trail.

Um den eigentlichen Cache zu finden, mußt du zuerst mit Daten aus der ersten Stage eine kleine Rechenaufgabe lösen. Die erste Stage befindet sich bei:
N 049° 37.496’ ; E 007°55.392’
Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten zur ersten Stage zu gelangen. Du kannst (und solltest) von der Parkmöglichkeit bei
N 049°38.388’ ; E 007°55.039’ den Pfad durch den Wald nehmen und den Berg hinauflaufen. Er ist recht steil und kann nach starkem Niederschlag auch recht rutschig sein. Bringe also feste Schuhe und etwas zu trinken mit. Erwarte ein bißchen Training. Folge den weißen Kreuzen auf den Bäumen. Dieser Pfad ist leider nichts für Kinderwagen.
Wem der Aufstieg nicht genug ist, der kann die Tour auf unzähligen Pfaden um den Donnersberg herum ausdehnen.
Für die Sesselhocker gibt es die Alternative den Donnersberg mit dem Auto hochzufahren, Parkplätze gibt es oben.
Nachdem du an Stage eins angekommen bist, solltest du in der Lage sein zwei Informationen auf einem Schild zu finden, welches sich hinter dem Zaun am Haupttor des großen Sendeturmes befindet.

2. Der Turm wird unter anderem zur Ausstrahlung verschiedener TV-Sender verwendet. Auf welchem Kanal ist das SWR-Bouquet zu finden? [Kanal] xy
Errechne nach folgendem Schlüssel die Position des final Cache:
N 49° (abc – 157.413)’ [verwende Turmhöhe]
E 007° 55.(xy + 704)’ [verwende Kanal Nr.]
Das GPS Signal ist zeitweise recht schlecht in der Umgebung des Cache. Folge dem historischen Keltenwall. Wenn du dich dem Cache näherst geht der Wall in einen kleineren Pfad über ( folge den grünen Schildern). Folge diesem Pfad und er wird dich zum Cache führen, welcher aus einer grünen Munitionskiste besteht, die unter einem schweren Stein ( Achtung Finger!) einige Meter neben dem Pfad versteckt liegt.
