Here's proof that style was as important as function during the early part of the 20th Century. Nowadays, water towers are pretty generic--this is the fourth really neat water tower in this area from early 1900's that I've seen, and I think this one is the most impressive, and this one is actually still in use. It was built back in the day when concrete, brick, and stone were the norm instead of sheet metal and plastic. When I first read a description of this tower, at first I said, "yeah, right, that can't be true" so I had to go see it for myself--I won't ruin the fun by letting you know what you are going to see here that made me think this was so amazing.

Please use the stairs to approach the tower, especially when the slope is muddy so as not to damage the environment. If the stairs are too snow-covered and icy, I'd rather have a picture as confirmation of your visit, than to have somebody getting hurt just to go read a plaque to answer a couple questions.
