Geocache Description:

G:UK cache rating

The cache is hidden close to Fort Henry, which claims to be Britain’s largest WWII coastal defence.

Churchill said we would “fight them on the beaches” but frankly if this was our largest coastal defence we might as well have laid out a buffet lunch for the would be invaders. If you’ve seen the German built defences along the Normandy coast, think small and insignificant before visiting here. Anyway an interesting bit of history – Fort Henry was visited by all the WWII bigwigs and KGVI. Great views across Studland Bay towards Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight.

Close to N50 38.714 W001 57.015 look out for what must be the smallest and cutest police station in Britain. Is this the only known thatched police station in Britain?

Parking is available quite close to the cache but for a pleasant half mile stroll along the beach I suggest parking at N50 39.093 W001 57.251. Close by, The Banks Arms at N50 38.533 W01 56.853 is a favourite of mine and always home to some fine ales you won’t have found elsewhere.

The cache is a small lunchbox (bring small swaps). The location can be busy so discretion may be necessary, please cover the cache well.
